Statement from the artist: “My favorite sand in all of San Francisco is at Kirby Cove, just north of the Golden Gate bridge. It’s a dark grey -almost black- sand with the most gorgeous view of the bridge and city. I loved hiking around there, playing on the rope swing, and the one lucky time we were able to camp at Kirby. A diligent friend put our names on the list months in advance and she scored us a spot.
